Statement

My work explores environments and consciousness through the lens of space and time while looking at both micro and macro levels. Reactions between acrylic, resin, latex rubber and other compounds hold evidence of interconnectedness and reflect transformation. This intention invites the viewer to consider their relationship to our mysterious and precarious existence. My subject matter combines the representational and the abstract, the beautiful and the grotesque. The work is meant to consider the complicated human connection with the cosmos, specifically our use and repeatedly our abuse of the physical earth around us.

The Landescapism series is comprised of fantasy landscape works seen as though the viewer were the size of an ant. Inspired by physics and the physicality of nature, the piece receives layers upon layers of multiple dimensions, unconstrained shapes, and most commonly a monochromatic palette to construct fantastical but very organic perspectives. When a fire rips through trees and brush the ground is left scorched and blackened. There is magnificence in that sadness. The design is to capture some of that tragic splendor through my art.

The Micro-environment series consists of creations meant to embody natural environments seen on microscopic levels. It is work that explores the tangled and often treacherous association between humankind and the living, biological, elemental ecosystem in which we all cohabit. Air pollution, water desecration, climate change, deforestation, species extinction, soil degradation all weigh heavy on our lives. Contemplating our position is imperative. The micro-environments can frequently be seen depicting a darkened, indefinable “virus” assaulting sea and terrain. They become true juxtapositions of the light and the dark, passion and apathy, and the majestic versus wretchedness.

Art should encourage the mind to rise above what is clearly there and search instead for the less obvious. Scavenge for the mystery. Explore and wonder and consider what is hidden. Art challenges and battles the very space in which it exists and examining that chaotic territory is a legacy that waits for us all.
